Engineering Expertise

At Viking Plastics, we use our collective knowledge to bring the customer’s requirements to life. Our advanced engineering and innovative development capabilities allow us to offer full-service design support, CAD and moldflow analysis. In addition, Viking has the proven expertise to engineer products from art to part, fulfilling our customers’ needs no matter how demanding the environment or application may be.

Product Design

Viking works with our customers as a design and development partner. Together, we can engineer optimum efficiency, cost-effectiveness and functionality into every product, no matter how complicated. Viking’s engineering and development staff works with our customers during the early stages of the design process to discover new ways of achieving optimal results on every product we ship.

Material Recommendation

Viking's expertise with engineered resins assures our customers that the most cost-effective materials are considered and chosen to achieve the required specifications for each particular application.

Mold Flow Analysis

Mold flow is an essential element of any injection molding design project. Before tooling production begins, Viking Plastics uses Moldflow software to analyze the proposed mold design to ensure that the mold will be capable of producing the strongest, most uniform parts from each cavity, using the optimal molding parameters.

How do we do it? Using either a Viking-generated or customer-supplied part design, we construct a computer model of the mold. The Moldflow software then uses this model and the processing characteristics of the specified resin to predict how the resin will flow through the mold and into the cavities.

This allows various key molding attributes, such as melt temperature, pressure profile, or time-to-fill, to be studied and optimized "virtually" before the mold is built. Instead of being discovered during the initial mold trial, Moldflow points out potential tooling-related molding problems and allows them to be corrected prior to cutting steel. In this way, costly and time-consuming tooling rework is avoided.

Viking also can utilize Moldflow to analyze recurring issues with an existing mold, using the software to determine if tooling rework can improve the characteristics of a molded part.
